Sarah’s getting hitched
Sarah is the beautiful bride-to-be that this lovely group of ladies celebrated, before she soon runs off to tie the knot with her lucky fiancé, Nate. She was showered with all kinds of great gifts that will surely help to create a happy and warm home, but not without a little bit of good ol’ fashion fun. That’s where the bubble gum comes into play. With every wrong answer to a question of “how well does this couple know each other,” Sarah chomped on one more piece of this bubblicious gum. Needless to say, that wad didn’t get too out of control, but enough to get a few laughs and funny faces. Carrie and friends, you put on a beautiful shower for your dear friend, Sarah, and so happy to document and be part of this special day! Congrats, Sarah!

jen, arturo and a baby
Jen and I met one cold and windy March evening at the Kansas City Track Club’s Wednesday night run group, 4 years ago. It has been through the sweatiest and the most frigid of runs, through the bike rides in hail storms and the injuries too, that I’ve gotten to know Jen, as well as her partner-in-crime, Arturo, and have developed two great friendships. And it of course was during a run that Jen told me the news and she hasn’t missed a step since that day. Jen doesn’t let being pregnant stop her from being active, it’s just been a whole different experience and well, I feel more knowledgeable in the department of being an active pregnant woman by watching Jen continue being her badass, athletic self. I wouldn’t be surprised if this baby comes out running! I couldn’t be happier for you two, as you start this new chapter in your lives. I can’t wait to meet this little man.

tara, bill and baby makes three
Old neighborhood friends Tara and I were, back when we rocked the neon jellies, constructed forts in the front yard, and bizarrely sang kumbaya while guarding a t-shirt in a game of capture the flag. It’s been ten years since we both graduated from High School and it was our high school reunion that finally gave us a chance to fully catch up on all things. It was no surprise that Tara was expecting, as she cutely arrived with her perfect baby bump. Let me just say, Tara is definitely one of those girls who can pull this whole pregnancy look off and most definitely makes any girl wish that one day when they are pregnant, they’ll look as good as she does. Seriously! So I was so thrilled when she expressed that she’d really like for me to do a maternity session when I came home for Christmas. And so we did and it was so much fun to reconnect, meet her sweet husband, see her parents whom I haven’t seen in a looong time and to do my first maternity session, photographing a childhood friend who’s got such a beautiful mommy glow going on. So glad we could squeeze this in and so very excited for the whole family.

Cecilia & Mike
Cecilia, with her beautiful green eyes, and Mike, with his shagadelic (aka awesome) hair, are two of my dearest friends out here that feel like home to me. They also moved from the Philly area to start their design careers at Hallmark right out of school, except they went to Kutztown’s art school rival (at least in KU student’s minds), Tyler, Art School of Temple University. None of us knew each other back east, including Cecilia and Mike, even though they have paralleled the same path with school choice, career choice and department placement. Crazy, right?! It’s like their stars were aligned way back when, only for them to meet out here and fall in love. So naturally, I was truly honored when they asked me to not only take their engagement pictures, but to photograph their wedding in Philadelphia in April 2012! Sooo excited to be part of their big day and to get an even closer glimpse of the union of these two with their friends and family. This was yet another fun, comfortable photo shoot, where I could ask these two to do just about anything and they were fair game. Cecilia even found these two books that were titled, “Mr. Mike” and “Cecilia” to include in the shoot. How perfect is that!? She also spotted the sign that says “co-op art,” (last image) which is equally awesome. You guys rocked this! So very happy for you both and can’t wait for April!

Lee & Rhea = engaged
Seriously?! Do you even see how damn cute these two are together? And not to mention beautiful and handsome? Yes, they are engaged and it’s easy to see they have fun together, look great together, feel comfortable with a big ol’ camera in their face and love each other so. Lee and Rhea met at Iowa State and continue to root for their team at Kelly’s bar in Westport, KC…mugs and all. I met Lee through Hallmark’s Kansas City Corporate Challenge team. He’s a stellar runner and keeps me on my toes. Check out our fun session! Congrats you two!

Nils & Emily’s backyard engagement party
Well, I only snapped a few pictures of this beautifully put-together, backyard engagement party. Wish I snapped a few more to show off the works of my talented, Martha Stewart-like friends. I think they could have just hired a minister and called this beautiful, happy couple married! In the last picture, Emily reads out loud a book of stories that everyone collectively contributed to, recounting fun/funny memories of Emily and Nils. Mine was naturally about when I first knew of Emily, which was back in college, in Sharadin Hall. So excited for you, Em! Congrats to you both!
