The Kansas City band, Justin Andrew Murray, combining the likes of rock, blues, and pop, came to me wanting some photography for their up-coming album release, posters and additional promotional pieces. It was a fun, yet sweaty day for this shoot in July and I think we managed to get some good shots of these talented, good-lookin’ men and their sweet music makin’ instruments. Just like the band mimics in their sound, we managed to find some great texture and gritty backdrops for their fresh, young faces. Justin, at the young age of 24, has managed to create a sound that is uniquely his own. Be sure to keep your eye out for this up-and-coming music artist, playing at a local scene in the Kansas City metro.
Stephanie came to me with the same request as my prior blog post with Stephen; needing pictures for the three books she has written or is in the process of writing. She really wanted to capture the essence of her writing within her portraits for each book, which made for a creative and fun session. One of her novels is a young adult book that is a historical fiction/fantasy story about a very young William Shakespeare. As you’ll be able to see in the pictures, we photographed two very different looks for potential uses to promote this story. The second novel is about a girl in a small town without a grocery store who has to teach herself how to cook to changer her life. The third is a cookbook that is based off of one of Stephanie’s blogs called Gretel’s Oven. Gretel also has an etsy shop, which is about a fairytale bakery that is run by a fairy tale person that you never actually see, hence the pictures not showing Stephanie’s face. I definitely will not be the first to attest to the quality pies this talented lady makes, as I was lucky enough to take one home. Let’s just say that strawberry pie didn’t last very long and I did manage to share 2 forkfuls with the boyfriend, which is better than none at all. Her cute cat, Mr. Whiskers, also snuck in for a few glamor shots, showing off his green eyes and unique left freckled whisker spot. Fingers crossed that all three get picked up and published!
Stephen reached out to me looking to get some portrait shots to accompany a novel he has written. Stephen’s novel, A Plot for Pridemore, is a darkly humorous tale about a struggling Missouri town that puts itself on the map by inventing a made-for-cable-news crisis. The book won the 2012 Ferrol Sams Award for Fiction and will be published by Mercer University Press in the summer of 2014.
We started the session down at the River Market and ended at this beautiful and historic Colonnade. The range of textures and backdrops combined with a laid-back, easy-going guy, made this a fun session on a perfect spring day.
Amy came to me wanting some fresh, updated professional pictures, as she is a Neurology MS Clinical Specialist who also teaches yoga to MS patients. We did a range of photos for her to use to help build clientele and awareness on her expertise and knowledge when it comes to working with patients, as she helps them to form a multidisciplinary approach looking at their whole life and how it impacts the management of their disease. Amy did a whole routine and I realized quickly that my flexibility lacks greatly after watching her get into some very difficult poses. Bonus for her, she not only got her workout in for the day, but I think we got some great shots of this beautiful and very talented lady.
Andrew is so “John Mayor,” so GQ, and oh so modest, cool, calm and collected and yes, he’s a senior and will be graduating this spring. Kansas State here he comes! Not only can he play the guitar and look all-kinds-of-handsome in front of a camera lens, he’s also one heck of a cross country runner and student too. Yeah, that’s right…this guy right here? All around stud and I was the lucky one to get to photograph “this.” Take a look and I think you’ll agree. Andrew, don’t hate me for that last one…I kinda had too. I tried doing that maneuver in the mirror and couldn’t. That guitar strumming might be skill, but that eyebrow has skill all on its own.
