Where to even begin with this post. Wow, what a fantastic week with an amazing group of friends this was last September. One that will surely never be forgotten with this crew, who are also known as The Honey Badgers. It is the group of crazies who roped me into doing my first half ironman in Boulder and who have roped me into doing my second this coming fall. After arriving and driving on the steep inclines into Squaw Valley in Tahoe and witnessing thunder-snow for the first time in my life, with AM temps on race day as low as 36 degrees, it was clear that only a honey badger would have the courage to jump into that lake and start such a race. Once you see the start pictures, you’ll see what I mean! Oh, but what an amazing sight. If you aren’t aware of how badass a honey badger truly is, you need to watch this and it will all make sense, hence the reason for the name of this KC Triathlon Club. It goes without saying that when preparing for such a race with people who are also insane and choose to work out for double digit hours, they become really close and cover just about anything and everything that fleets through one’s mind, which is why it’s always a good time when this group of friends gets together. The youngest badger, who competed in his first Ironman, was in the running to qualify for Kona, where the cream of the crop compete in the world championships. He missed it by a matter of seconds. All badgers, some who have raced as many as 6 Ironman races, muscled through what was one of the most difficult courses that Ironman has put on. The climbs and descends and the fluctuating temperatures, made for a very challenging day out there. And if you think what you read isn’t crazy enough, one particular honey badger put on his suit (not his wetsuit), the day after the race to marry his best friend, with all their friends and close family to witness and celebrate such a joyous occasion. Rev. Mark Frady, married these two and really had a lovely service to tie their marriage knot. Sure, everyone was a little tired, sore and not walking so swiftly after a long day, but the couple was thinking ahead and booked a sailing charter for all to relax before their sunset ceremony. Summere, glowed and looked absolutely stunning in her dress and the backdrop of the lake made for the most picturesque ceremony. Going through all the pictures brought back the memories of a fun week. Congratulations friends, especially as you are preparing for the arrival of your baby girl! Looking forward to the fun adventures in store for 2014, Honey Badger family! I love you guys!
Briana and Jeremy couldn’t have picked a more beautiful fall day to tie-the-knot at Stony Point in Baldwin City. The backdrop was perfect and they were graced by the presence of all their near-and-dear friends and family from far and wide. Briana was glowing from the moment she arrived and when she slipped on that dress, well, it was a given that she was going to make that boy cry at first site of her gorgeous and fine-lookin’ self. And that he did and I’ve got quite the documentation to prove it. Once the ceremony commenced, it was on to lawn games, cocktails, dinner, kind words from their besties and of course some dancing and merriment. Jeremy’s sister gets some major credit for making this wedding happen, as she was responsible for match-making these two lovebirds up after Briana expressed interest in skydiving. Funny that her brother, Jeremy, is a sky dive instructor, hence the groom’s cake theme, made by Sweet Arts Creations. Thankfully that limp he was strutting down the aisle wasn’t from a skydiving accident, although he did get hit by a car 4 days before their big day. Luckily the pictures show no sign of such an unfortunate experience the week of your wedding. Bri and Jeremy, I am truly honored for having the opportunity to capture all the beautiful memories on your special day. Congrats to you both!
Well if it wasn’t the hottest day this summer, then it was darn near close to it. Yes, Heather and Evan picked a steamy day in KC to get married, but it didn’t stop these two lovebirds from exchanging their vows in front of the fun and intimate audience of all those that are near and dear in their lives. The fun evening began at Ward Parkway bowling alley, where a trolley awaited to escort family and friends to the quaint and cute wedding chapel, The Vow Exchange, in downtown KC. After a lovely ceremony orchestrated by Evan’s brother, the group sipped on some lavender lemonade and champagne and were soon on their way back to the bowling alley to loosen up their ties, slip off their fancy shoes, eat cupcakes and french fries and show off their bowling skills. It was a fun, special, unique and low-key evening for this couple and family to celebrate the beginning of the beautiful life Heather and Evan will share together. Congratulations you guys!
This was the first Vow Exchange wedding and what a gorgeous day it was for a short, simple and sweet ceremony between Matt & Elisha. This good-looking couple exchanged their vows in front of 20 of their closest friends and family members on the first Friday of June. Luckily the summer heat hadn’t kicked in quite yet, making it a very comfortable evening to open up the garage door for fresh air and sun. The beautiful fresh flower bouquet and boutonnieres were done by The Vintage Petal. Congratulations Matt and Elisha and to the owner, Kathryn, for orchestrating a successful first wedding at The Vow Exchange!
This wedding was the definition of a fiesta, with bright & happy colors, margaritas on the rocks, cold Coronas, tacos, guacamole, laughter, dancing, banjo strummin’, double bass slappin’ and one of the funniest, sweetest and most memorable ceremonies officiated by one of their dear friends. This couple and family knows how to throw a party! Elizabeth from Kansas and Zack from Missouri (note her necklace), wedded in the town they graduated. Elizabeth, a ridiculously talented NYC freelance illustrator and lettering artist, brought out all the creative stops with all the details throughout the day as you can see throughout the pictures. Their stunning cake was designed by one of their friends, given no direction other than the wedding invitation that Elizabeth had designed. Elizabeth’s clarinet teacher from college even played for their special day. The Cider Gallery, which opened its doors for business the night before, was a perfect backdrop for their celebration and I was honored to have been part of their special, big day! Congratulations, Elizabeth and Zack!
The Vow Exchange had their grand opening the first Friday of May and what a fun debut of this fantastic new space that has opened up in the Crossroads. It’s a new way to wed in Kansas City. Think Vegas-style chapel with a rustic, yet urban, mid-western charm. With various packages, you can have an intimate and beautiful wedding at a ridiculously reasonable price that won’t blow your budget, no matter what kind of budget you have to work with. I’m excited and honored to have been asked to be the photographer to capture any couple who chooses to have their wedding professionally documented. The space, located at 2005 Campbell street, Kansas City MO, was officially broken in with pretty ladies dressed in vintage dresses and accessories from Donna’s Dress Shop, an appearance by Elvis, a few bottles of bubbly, guitar strumming and good company. Cheers to a great space and many beautiful moments ahead! Now go check it out!
